Hi, I’m Sophia Chung! I'm a learning designer, educator, and program architect with a passion for creating engaging, inclusive learning experiences that drive real impact. I've spent over a decade designing programs that develop future leaders and foster equity, sustainability, and innovation.

As the founder of Foundry Learning Design, I partner with organizations of all sizes to create impactful learning experiences that inspire action and lasting change. I'm happiest uncovering fresh perspectives on learning objectives, facilitating trainings around systems thinking, or designing learning ecosystems that transform the way people think and act. Outside of my work with adults, I co-run Foundry Writing, a writing and consulting studio for middle and high school students. In my spare time I support climate and sustainability-related causes—volunteering as a team lead for Work On Climate, supporting local community gardens, and learning about climate technology.

At Jane Street, I led the development and evaluation of global training programs across New York, London, and Hong Kong, creating workshops and training thousands of employees while streamlining program evaluation for the Talent Development team.

At McKinsey Sustainability, I designed digital courses and learning journeys on climate science, carbon accounting, and decarbonization pathways, training both CEOs and frontline employees. I also contributed to McKinsey’s sustainability knowledge base through expert interviews and research.

My work at the Obama Foundation focused on leadership and community engagement training, developing over 85 hours of curricula and partnering with 32 organizations across 5 cities to create equity-driven programs. And as an equity and diversity coach, I helped a Brooklyn school analyze and address racial disparities in disciplinary policies.

Prior to my tenure at the Obama Foundation, my love for hands-on learning led me to explore fabrication labs across South Asia, where I designed evaluation frameworks for experiential learning programs serving underserved communities. Earlier in my career I also founded Foundry Academy, a game-based creative writing center in Walnut, California, where students used role-playing games to craft their own fantasy stories and explore themes of power and privilege.

I holds a master’s degree in Technology, Innovation, and Education from Harvard University's Graduate School Of Education and degrees in English and piano performance from Lawrence University.
